Cabinet installation itself can be relatively fast, but the full project timeline is longer because measuring, design approval, cabinet availability, demolition, delivery, installation, countertop templating, fabrication, and final adjustments happen in sequence.

The cabinet installation phase
For a straightforward kitchen with cabinets ready on site and no major room changes, installation may take only a few working days. Larger kitchens, tall pantry units, islands, stacked cabinets, fillers, panels, appliance surrounds, and custom details can extend that time.
What happens before installation?
Before cabinets can be installed, the layout needs to be measured and confirmed. Appliance sizes, plumbing locations, wall conditions, window and door clearances, fillers, panels, and cabinet opening dimensions all affect the final design. Cabinets also need to be ordered or prepared and delivered to the project. See the ZEUS kitchen cabinet process.

What happens after cabinets are installed?
If new stone countertops are part of the project, countertop templating generally happens after the base cabinets are installed, level, and secured. The fabricator then produces the countertop from the selected slab or material before returning for installation. Final plumbing, backsplash, appliance connections, and touch-ups may happen after the countertop is in place. Compare available countertop materials.

What commonly delays a cabinet project?
- Incorrect or late appliance specifications
- Unexpected wall, floor, electrical, or plumbing conditions
- Changes to the approved cabinet layout
- Special-order or custom cabinet components
- Countertop slab availability and fabrication schedule
- Additional panels, fillers, moldings, or replacement parts
How to reduce delays
Confirm appliance models early, provide accurate measurements, finalize cabinet style and color before ordering, and avoid changing the layout after approval unless the change is necessary. Coordinating cabinets and countertops through one project team can also reduce communication gaps between stages.
